Leaked Documents Reveal Beyond Meat’s Dirty Factory Conditions

Leaked Documents Reveal Beyond Meat’s Dirty Factory Conditions

Beyond Meat has made headlines yet again. This time, for various health-related concerns at one of its key factories.

Bloomberg broke the news on Monday that a former employee leaked evidence that Beyond Meat products produced at the factory tested positive for the dangerous bacteria Listeria at least 11 times over the course of a year.

The evidence provided by the former employee was then backed up by two more ex-employees that confirmed Listeria had, in fact, been found at the factory.

Bloomberg obtained some disturbing photos from inside the facility provided by a former employee. The photos display what appears to be mold growing on the wall and on top of several containers along with spilled liquids and the misuse of equipment.

The New York Post reported a representative for Beyond Meat defended the company against the report claiming that Beyond Meat’s safety standards go “above and beyond industry and regulatory standards.” They additionally noted, “inspections conducted in March and September by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture had “found no instances of nonconformance with regulations.”

This unfortunate report comes after Beyond Meat’s former chief operating officer, Doug Ramsey, was arrested for allegedly biting off another man’s nose as a result of an altercation in a parking deck after a football game. Subsequently, he resigned.

Beyond Meat stocks have also plummeted this year. The company announced in October its plans to lay off about 200 employees as a cost-cutting measure.
