YouTube Will Now Promote First-Aid Videos Made by Hospitals and Trusted Health Organizations

YouTube is now taking steps to provide viewers with quick access to step-by-step first aid videos created by trusted health organizations and hospitals.

This week, the streaming platform announced that short instructional videos will be pinned at the top of search results for specific health emergencies such as “bleeding, choking, heart attacks, seizures and opioid overdoses,” CNN reported.

The new feature, labeled as First Aid Information Shelves, was created to help viewers obtain critical life-saving knowledge. One video, for example, created by a Mass General Brigham doctor, shows viewers the step-by-step process of performing the Heimlich maneuver, when to perform the procedure and the correct hand placement to use.

“Today’s announcement is a significant step forward to increase access to authoritative resources on first aid care, especially for those without medical training at times when they may need it most,” YouTube explained in a blog post

Many videos are already available in both English and Spanish and according to Youtube, support for other languages will be added in the future.
