Target Tests New Facilities to Bring Next-Day Delivery to All Customers

This week, Target announced that it is testing an extension facility to help deliver orders the day after purchase to customers who live farther from city centers.

The first facility was opened last month in Smyrna, Georgia and other locations are reportedly being considered as well.

According to CNBC, “Drivers from Target-owned delivery service Shipt pick up packages from the extension facility and deliver them to customers’ doorsteps. The drivers are independent contractors, similar to those who deliver for Uber.”

Additionally, earlier this year Target vowed to spend $100 million over the next three years to build a bigger network of supply chain hubs to help the company bring next-day delivery to more customers.

These hubs are called “sortation centers” and help group online orders in boxes and then into denser and more efficient delivery routes. Nine facilities already exist and the company plans to have at least 15 up and running by the end of January 2026, per CNBC.
