Samsung Announces Updates to Tablets, Smartwatches and Foldable Devices

Samsung Announces Updates to Tablets, Smartwatches and Foldable Devices

Samsung held its annual Unpacked event on Wednesday where it announced updates to its tablets, smartwatches and foldable devices and largely covered the arrival of the fifth generation foldable smartphones.

The smartphones come in the 6.7 inch Z Flip5, which folds into a 3.4-inch device and the 6.2-inch Galaxy Z Fold, which opens like a book into a 7.6 inch device. Both devices are featuring better cameras, improved designs and a longer battery life.

However, something that has not changed is the high price tag. The Z Flip5 starts at $999.99 and the Z Fold5 starts at $1,799, the same price as previous years.

According to CNN, Samsung is the “undisputed market leader” for foldable phones and there has reportedly been a renewed interest in foldable/flip phones, but the devices have yet to go mainstream.

Drew Blackard, Vice President of mobile product management at Samsung, provided some insight into what customers can expect in the future. “I think you tend to see prices start to drop as the product lines and categories get to that maturity level. We still feel that these products are really at the forefront of the innovation curve,” per CNN.
