Fortnite Users Can Now Claim Their Share in the FTC Settlement

Fortnite users are now able to claim their share of the $245 million settlement with the US Federal Trade Commission.

The settlement covers allegations that the game’s parent company, Epic Games, “used deceptive tactics that drove users to make unwanted purchases in the multiplayer shooter game that became wildly popular with younger generations a few years ago,” according to CNN.

There are more than 37 million potentially affected users who could qualify for compensation, according to the FTC. As of Tuesday, the claims process is now open.

Some of the allegations by the FTC regarding the game’s way of deception included the use of “dark patterns and other deceptive practices to trick players into making unwanted purchases” and also “made it easy for children to rack up charges without parental consent,” per a statement by the FTC.

Users who may be eligible for compensation are being contacted by the FTC now. “Affected users may receive an email from the FTC over the next month with a claim number, or they can go directly to the settlement site and file a claim using their Epic account ID,” CNN reported.
