The Wall Street Journal announced on Monday that Emma Tucker would be its next editor-in-chief. Tucker will be the first woman to lead the business publication in its 133 years.
Tucker, who is currently serving as the editor of The Sunday Times, will replace the present Wall Street Journal editor, Matt Murray at the beginning of February.
Murray will move on to a senior position at News Corp, the company announced in a press release. Murray will assist Tucker in her new role until March 1 when he begins his new position.
Previously, Tucker spent 17 years working at the Financial Times before joining The Times in 2007 as an associate features editor. By the next year, she was serving as the Editor of Times2 until she was promoted to the editorial direction in 2012.
Chief Executive of News Corp, Robert Thompson, only had positive remarks about Tucker taking on her new role at The Wall Street Journal.
“Emma is a brilliant, inspiring editor, with digital nous and the highest standards of integrity,” Thompson said in a statement. “She has been a thoughtful custodian of The Sunday Times and will bring verve and virtue to Dow Jones. Her global vision and experience will be particularly important at a time of immense international opportunity for The Wall Street Journal.”
