Twitter will Launch Encrypted Messages and Calls

Elon Musk is making yet another change to the Twitter platform, he announced in a tweet on Tuesday. The encrypted messaging feature rolled out the very next day on Wednesday and voice and video chat are expected to follow.

“Release of encrypted DMs [direct messages] V1.0 should happen tomorrow. This will grow in sophistication rapidly. The acid test is that I could not see your DMs even if there was a gun to my head,” Musk said.

He added, “Coming soon will be voice and video chat from your handle to anyone on this platform, so you can talk to people anywhere in the world without giving them your phone number.”

This is just the latest changes Musk has made since taking over the social media app six months ago. These new communication updates might put Twitter in competition with Meta, owner of Facebook Messenger and Whatsapp, amid dwindling advertising revenue, CNN reported.
