Toyota is finally ready to dabble in the electric vehicle industry and is looking to satisfy all types of customers.
In order to do this, Toyota is creating an electric vehicle with a “fake” manual transmission as a fun add on for some customers. Even though most gasoline-powered vehicles today have automatic transmissions, some people still prefer manual transmission where the driver presses a clutch pedal and moves a stick around to choose different gears.
According to CNN, Toyota’s new model would “have no actual multi-speed transmission. Instead, a shifter would be connected to sensors and a central computer programmed to mimic the feel of a car with a manual transmission.” This includes a clutch pedal in addition to the accelerator and usual brake.
Drivers also will experience the shaking and bucking that comes along with gas-powered manual transmission to a certain extent. If the driver doesn’t feel like using the fake manual transmission, a regular EV driving mode will also be available.
