Ticketmaster Apologizes to Taylor Swift and Fans for Ticket Sale Nightmare
Friday night, Ticketmaster issued an apology to Taylor Swift and her fans after the pre-sale period for Swift’s “The Eras Tour” went terribly wrong.
Thousands of fans were left without tickets due to the Ticketmaster site freezing and crashing. The website was unprepared for the enormous traffic it received last week, even though it took measures to weed out bots and estimate how many fans would be purchasing tickets by requiring registration through Verified Fan.
Ticketmaster stated in a blog post, “We want to apologize to Taylor and all of her fans – especially those who had a terrible experience trying to purchase tickets.”
Prior to Ticketmaster’s apology, Swift herself addressed the chaotic situation on Instagram, writing, “I’m not going to make excuses for anyone because we asked them, multiple times, if they could handle this kind of demand and we were assured they could. It’s truly amazing that 2.4 million people got tickets, but it really pisses me off that a lot of them feel like they went through several bear attacks to get them.”
Ticketmaster provided insight into what exactly happened to the website during the presale to help fans understand why they were not allowed to purchase tickets. The ticketing site claimed it knew a record number of fans were planning to buy tickets and believed it had the means to provide them. However, the seller blamed the “staggering number of bots attacks” and a large number of fans that did not receive the Verified Fan code for the unprecedented traffic to the site.
Ticketmaster stated that even with all the chaos, over 2 million tickets were sold for Taylor Swift’s “The Era’s Tour,” breaking the record for the most tickets ever sold in a single day.
As for the fans who did not receive tickets, Swift addressed them in her Instagram post, “To those who didn’t get tickets, all I can say is that my hope is to provide more opportunities for us to get together and sing these songs.”
