Writers and actors in Hollywood are taking a stand.
Hollywood actors’ labor union and the trade group representing the industry’s leading studios failed to reach a deal on a new contract, now thousands of actors are on strike.
The president of the union, Fran Drescher, declared, “We are the victims here. We are being victimized by a very greedy entity. I am shocked by the way the people that we have been in business with are treating us.”
Film and television production has reportedly been halted by the strike, essentially “shutting down Hollywood,” CNBC reported.
Through negotiations, Hollywood performers were “looking to improve wages, working conditions and health and pension benefits, as well as create guardrails for the use of artificial intelligence in future television and film productions,” per CNBC.
Hollywood actors are joining the The Writers Guild of America which has been on strike since May. The guild is seeking higher compensation and new staffing rules among other things.
