The Box Office is Starting to Recover After Covid, More Movies on Their Way to Theaters

The box office is slowly starting to recover after it took a hard hit during the pandemic. Now, three years later, things are looking up.

According to CNBC, “The domestic box office reaped $1.8 billion during the first three months of the year, lagging 25% behind 2019 levels.” Last year, sales were 34% behind 2019’s pace. 2019 is reportedly the benchmark for the industry as the last full year of normalcy before the pandemic hit in 2020.

Some films that helped produce $1.8 billion so far this year are “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” “Creed III” and “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.” Also “M3GAN,” “Jesus Revolution” and “Cocaine Bear” helped boost sales as well, CNBC reported.

More films will be hitting theaters this year drawing in even more moviegoers including “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” “The Little Mermaid,” and “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” plus many more.
