On Wednesday, Taco Bell announced that one of its most popular menu items will be offered as a plant-based option in three different U.S. cities.
Taco Bell lovers and vegans in Los Angeles, New York and Orlando will be able to enjoy a plant-based Crunchwrap by the end of the week. Those three cities, according to the chain, were chosen due to their high vegan populations.
Taco Bell has been a go-to restaurant for vegetarian customers for years because of the meat substitutes offered like potatoes and beans, CNBC reported.
The “beef” inside the Vegan Crunchwrap will be made from pea protein and soy. As for the cheese, Taco Bell reportedly avoided using nuts, which is how most vegan cheese is made, due to customer allergies. Instead, the vegan blanco sauce and vegan nacho sauce are made from a soy base.
The Vegan Crunchwrap will have the same menu price as the original Crunchwrap.
