Peloton issued a recall on Thursday that involved over 2 million exercise bikes. The company cited a safety concern over the adjustable seat that could break and injure the rider during use.
Peloton owners of model number Pl-01 should stop using the bike immediately, the US Consumer Product Safety Commision (CPSC) reported. According to a press release from Peloton, these bikes were sold January 2018 to May 2023 only in the United States.
As of April 30, 2,160,000 bikes were sold and there have been 35 reports of the seat breaking. The CPSC note that of those 35 reports, 13 people were injured including a “fractured wrist, lacerations and bruises due to falling from the bike.”
This is the second major recall the company has issued following the 2021 recall of treadmills. The tragic death of a six-year-old boy and many other injuries relating to the machine prompted the company to recall about 125,000 of its Tread+ brand treadmills as well as a $19 million fine.
Shares of Peloton fell more than 6% following the news of the latest recall, according to CNN.
