Paramount Global has plans to integrate Showtime into its streaming service, the company announced on Monday.
The battle for subscribers has been raging on as streaming services navigate the rapidly changing industry. According to CNN, “Merging Showtime and Parmount+ on streaming will be a far more compelling offering to consumers versus trying to convince them to subscribe to each service separately.”
The product of the merger will be rebranded as Paramount+ with Showtime and will feature original series from both networks like “Yellowjackets,” “Dexter,” “Yellowstone,” and “Criminal Minds.”
A spokesperson for Paramount said that pricing for the combined streaming service will be announced in the coming weeks. According to CNBC, the current prices start at $4.99 a month for Paramount+ and $10.99 a month for Showtime. A bundled deal for the two services already exists that starts at $11.99 a month.
Paramount CEO, Bob Bakish’s, Monday announcement included his reasoning behind the merger. “This new combined offering demonstrates how we can leverage our entire collection of content to drive deeper connections with consumers and greater value for our distribution partners.”
