North Carolina Woman Applies for Job with a Cake
It is important to put effort into creating an accurate resume that reflects your previous experience and skills so future employers know your capabilities. Karly Pavlinac Blackburn took this to a whole new level.
The North Carolina resident sent Nike a cake with her resume printed on it, hoping to be offered a job.
Although the division within the company she was interested in, Valiant Labs, was not currently hiring, she still thought it was worth a shot. Blackburn learned Nike would be celebrating “Just Do It Day” on September 8 and thought it was the perfect occasion for dessert.
Fox Business broke down her LinkedIn post where she explained the whole process. “They are not currently hiring for any positions on that team, but I wanted to find some way for the team to know who I was. What better way than to send a cake to a big party,” she wrote.
She wondered how she could get her resume cake from North Carolina all the way to the Nike headquarters located in Oregon.
Blackburn luckily found a grocery store that delivered cakes and an Instacart driver, Denise Baldwin, that was just as determined as she was to get the cake to Nike. Baldwin navigated the Nike campus with “a sleeping child in one arm and a ½ sheet cake in the other.”
Baldwin was able to confirm that she made contact with the employer Blackburn was looking for, but she does not know yet if all her efforts will end in a job offer.
However, Blackburn’s determination and persistence in the job hunt inspired her Instacart driver to make larger efforts to find a new job of her own. Blackburn explained in her LinkedIn post that Denise told her “You have inspired me. This was meant to be. I am a mom and I am tired of doing Instacart. I know I have more abilities and qualifications to get something better. I’m so glad this worked for the both of us.”
Best of luck to Karly and Denise with their job search!
