The world’s biggest streaming service is branching out.
Next year, Netflix will be live streaming its first awards ceremony, the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards. This will mark the beginning of a new, multi-year partnership.
According to CNN, “The awards honor the best performances in film and television and are voted on by the more than 120,000 members of the guild. They’re typically less extravagant and watched by fewer people than awards shows like the Oscars and Golden Globes.”
Netflix has been evolving to keep adding subscribers and keep up with competitors. The streaming service recently added a cheaper, ad-supported subscription as well as gaming.
Netflix is not the first streaming service to live stream an awards show. According to CNN, “The Academy of Country Music Awards switched from CBS to Amazon’s Prime Video in 2022 and will once again stream live on the service this year.”
The Screen Actors Guild Awards will live stream on Netflix’s YouTube channel on Sunday, February 26 at 8 pm ET and will stream on the platform itself next year.
