It was reported on Monday that McDonald’s had ordered corporate employees to work remotely this week as the offices were going to be closed. The Wall Street Journal reported the news claiming the company was preparing for company restructuring that includes employee layoffs.
In a message viewed by the Wall Street Journal to employees, the company explained, “During the week of April 3, we will communicate key decisions related to roles and staffing levels across the organization.”
Perhaps this decision does not come to a shock to everyone as McDoanld’s CEO, Chirs Kempczinski, warned employees back in January that job cuts were looming. According to CNN, in a memo to staff he wrote, “We will evaluate roles and staffing levels in parts of the organization and there will be difficult discussions and decisions ahead.” He added that “certain initiatives will be de-prioritized or stopped altogether. This will help us move faster as an organization, while reducing our global costs and freeing up resources to invest in our growth.”
It is unclear how many employees the company is planning to cut.
