Goya Foods is stepping up and providing people in the East Palestine community and those in the surrounding areas with food and critical supplies after a toxic train derailment.
According to a press release put out by the company on Monday, Goya will be offering East Palestine residents food and beverage options that do not require tap water for preparation. Something, it claims, no one else has even thought of.
Goya is distributing its products with the help of Way Station, “a community resource for families and individuals in need,” the press release stated.
On Feb. 3, a Norflok Southern train carrying toxic chemicals was derailed in East Palestine, Ohio and for weeks, residents have been reporting various health problems. According to CNN, “to help prevent a deadly explosion of vinyl chloride, crews released the toxic chemical into a trench and burned it off.”
Although the Environmental Protection Agency’s testing shows the air and municipal water in the East Palestine area are safe, people are still reluctant to eat or drink locally sourced food or water.
