General Motors will be partnering with Tesla to use the electric vehicle (EV) company’s charging network and technologies.
Following in Ford’s footsteps, GM will be installing the North American Charging Standard (NACS), the same charging port used by Tesla and now Ford.
CNBC reported, as part of the deal, “GM vehicles will be able to access 12,000 of Tesla’s fast chargers using an adapter and the Detroit automaker’s EV charging app, starting next year.”
The deal is expected to benefit GM in a big way by saving the company up to $400 million of a previously announced $750 million investment to build its own EV charging.
This deal is also a win for Tesla because its growing partnerships are putting pressure on other automakers to adopt the company’s technology.
According to CNBC, stocks of GM and Tesla were up about 3% as of last Thursday.
