On Monday, Domino’s announced a partnership with Uber Eats and Postmates, posing a major change for the company.
In the past, Domino’s had avoided using third-party delivery apps in the U.S. and required customers to order directly through them. However, by the end of the year, customers should be able to access Domino’s full menu on Uber Eats and Postmates.
After the announcement, shares of Domino’s impressively soared more than 10%, according to CNN.
Domino’s has been anti-delivery apps in the past. The company even gave away $50 million in free food to counter the “surprise fees” that delivery apps charged.
This new partnership might be a response to the struggles Domino’s has faced with delivery in previous years. The company has experienced labor issues and competition from third party apps, both of which likely had a negative impact on the amount of deliveries being made.
Domino’s CEO, Russell Weiner, told the Wall Street Journal that “the partnership could add $1 billion in new sales.”
