Last week, Disneyland announced it would be hosting the first-ever “Pride Nite” for two nights during June, which is considered pride month.
According to a press release from Disney, “Disneyland After Dark: Pride Nite is a separately ticketed event which celebrates the LGBTQIA+ community and allies, and will be held on June 13 and 15, 2023, inside Disneyland park. This after-hours event includes themed entertainment, Disney characters, one-of-a-kind photo opportunities, specialty menu items, event merchandise and more!”
Disneyland guests will be able to enjoy attractions outside of the regular operating hours. A three-hour party begins at 6 p.m, followed by a private party that begins at 9 p.m and lasts until 1 a.m.
According to Fox Business, this announcement comes as Florida Governor, Ron DeSantis, battles to remove self-governance privileges from Disney, giving oversight back to the state. And, per New York Magazine, “DeSantis warned that he may crack down on the inspection of Disney theme-park rides, require pay increases for first responders, require its resorts to post notices warning about human trafficking, build more affordable housing, and perhaps use land adjacent to Disney World to build either another amusement park or a state prison.”
