Disney Reopens Toontown with Improvements to be Inclusive of ‘Every Single Guest’

Disney Reopens Toontown with Improvements to be Inclusive of ‘Every Single Guest’

The reimagined Mickey’s Toontown reopened last weekend at Disneyland Park with improvements to be accommodating to every guest.

Mickey’s Toontown first opened 30 years ago and, according to Portfolio Executive Producer at Walt Disney Imagineering, Jeff Shaver-Moskowitz, the goal was to preserve what makes Mickey’s Toontown special for so many and the many memories made there while improving it for the future generations of guests.

According to the Walt Disney Company’s website, the reimagined Mickey’s Toontown removed as many barriers as possible creating more room for gathering and playing as well as more open green space. Also, “Guests can now experience thoughtful elements for different needs, including companion restrooms, a quieter area for decompression, and a curb-free land that helps make navigation easier for guests of differing abilities.”

Shaver-Moskowitz acknowledged the level of chaos a day at Disneyland can bring, running from one attraction to another, and wanted Toontown to be a place of excitement but also a place of welcoming relaxation.

He stated, “We’ve got a lot of guests who utilize our parks in different ways, who see, hear, feel our experiences in different ways. We want every child to know that when it came to this land, it was designed for them—that they were seen, and that this place welcomes them.”
