Delivery workers in New York City are finally catching a break.
Chick-fil-A opened a storefront on the Upper East Side on Thursday that will operate through April 13 creating a place where workers who deliver for apps like DoorDash, UberEats or GrubHub can take a break.
According to CNN there are more than 65,000 delivery workers in New York. And since the pandemic, when people started to rely on ordering out, delivery workers are busier than ever.
Chick-fil-A created the “Brake Room” so busy workers can stop in from 11 AM to 7 PM, Monday through Saturday, and enjoy a coffee or tea or use the restroom. Workers can also charge their phones or relax on couches, chairs or tables.
The “Brake Room” also has an indoor bike rack. In a city where many deliveries are made by bicycle, this will be helpful to workers.
In October, New York City Mayor, Eric Adams, announced plans to create hubs out of empty spaces for delivery workers to rest. Chick-fil-A’s “Brake Room” appears to be a step in the right direction.
