The release of “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” made for a massively successful weekend at the box office.
Together, the movies, dubbed “Barbenheimer,” generated more than $235.5 million in ticket sales at the North American box office. “Barbie” is responsible for $155 million, brought in during its first three days in theaters and “Oppenheimer” made $82.4 million,” The Guardian reported.
“Our partners in the creative community and at the studios gave audiences two uniquely different, smart and original stories that were meant for the big screen and movie lovers responded by gathering friends and family and heading to their local movie houses across the nation,” said Michael O’Leary, president and CEO of the National Associations of Theatre Owners.
Analysts believe that “Barbenheimer” weekend is set to be the fourth-highest weekend haul ever behind “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame,” according to CNBC.
