Bed Bath & Beyond is facing yet another unfortunate situation. The company confirmed there was a data breach after an employee was phished.
Although details of the breach are limited, the company stated in an 8-K filing to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, “an attacker had “improperly accessed” company data after a successful phishing scam targeting an employee in October. This gave the hacker access to data on the employee’s hard drive and other shared drives to which the employee had access,” TechCrunch reported.
The investigation is ongoing.
Days after the news of the breach broke, the company announced its customer and technology chief, Rafeh Masood, would be stepping down.
According to Yahoo Finance, “Masood’s resignation, effective Dec. 2, was not the result of any disagreement with Bed Bath & Beyond on any matter related to the company’s operations, practices or financial statements, the company said in a regulatory filing.”
