Apple, on Tuesday, released a preview of accessibility features that will be a part of the iOS 17 update. One particular change will allow users to synthesize their voice that can be used to connect with others in different ways via phone, FaceTime and audio calls.
The feature, called “Personal Voice,” is aimed at users that have conditions that have an effect on their ability to speak.
CNBC reported, “Users can create their Personal Voice by recording 15 minutes of audio on their device. Apple said the feature will use local machine-learning technology to maximize privacy.”
Along with the update, Apple is introducing an Assistive Access feature that aids users with cognitive disabilities, and their caretakers, navigate iOS devices more easily.
“Accessibility is part of everything we do at Apple. These groundbreaking features were designed with feedback from members of disability communities every step of the way, to support a diverse set of users and help people connect in new ways,” said Sarah Herrlinger, Apple’s senior director of Global Accessibility Policy and Initiatives, in a press release.
