Amazon has started charging a fee for some returns made to UPS locations. The company is attempting to decrease the amount of returns customers are making.
The company will now start charging customers a $1 fee if they return their order to a UPS location when there is an Amazon Fresh grocery store, Whole Foods or Kohl’s closer to their delivery address.
According to CNN, “Companies have to cover costly shipping fees in order for customers to send their products back. Those items sometimes wind up back in retailers’ warehouses or on shelves. Stores then have to mark down returned goods to sell them, further squeezing their profit.”
Other companies like Zara, H&M, J. Crew and more have also tacked on a shipping fee for returns. Some retailers have also shortened the return window to get customers to make fewer returns.
Although $1 seems like a small price to pay, we will see if this helps Amazon receive fewer returns.
