Germany-based grocery store Aldi announced this week its plans to acquire all Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket locations in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi.
“The time was right to build on our growth momentum and help residents in the Southeast save on their grocery bills. The transaction supports our long-term growth strategy across the United States,” said Aldi CEO, Jason Hart.
According to a release from the company, Aldi will be acquiring about 400 stores and plans to convert some of them into Aldi stores. Financial details have not been revealed yet, but the deal is expected to close in the first half of next year.
Amid high costs due to inflation, according to CNBC, grocers have remained resilient as cost-conscious customers focus on purchasing necessities.
Aldi plans to add 120 new store locations by the end of the year to reach a total of more than 2,400 stores.
