United Airlines Reaches a Deal with Pilots Giving Them a Major Raise

United Airlines pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, have reached a deal with the airline that could give pilots up to a 40% raise.

According to the union, pilots and United management have been negotiating for more than four years. Also, the deal, which has about $10 billion in value, will improve the quality of work-life, compensation, job security, work rules, retirement and benefits.

“We promised our world-class pilots the industry-leading contract they deserve, and we’re pleased to have reached an agreement with ALPA on it. The four-year agreement, once ratified, will deliver a meaningful pay raise and quality of life improvements for our pilots while putting the airline on track to achieve the incredible potential of our United Next strategy,” United Airlines said in a statement.

Pilot union groups have been adamant about requesting improved benefits ever since post-pandemic travel has ramped back up, per CNN. Delta pilots reportedly approved a contract in March that included a 34% pay raise while American Airlines pilots will also be voting on a contract.
