Celsius Battles Rumors that its Drink Contains Ozempic

A viral rumor started circulating on social media that Celsisus’ popular energy drink product contains Ozempic, a drug with known weight loss effects. So much so that “Celsius drink ozempic” has been searched 11.6 million times on TikTok, according to FOX Business.

However, Celsius shut down these rumors. “Celsius products do not contain, and have never contained, semaglutide” (Ozempic), a spokesperson for the company explained to FOX Business.

Ozempic has been surging in popularity as many celebrities accredit the drug for their drastic weight loss transformations. Ozempic works by “mimicking a gut hormone called GLP-1 to lower blood glucose levels after you’ve eaten a meal. It also blocks your liver from making glucose and helps you feel full for a longer period of time,” according to GoodRx.

The company does claim that Celsius beverages help people burn more calories, just not because of Ozempic. The spokesperson told FOX Business, “Celsius products provide functional energy that, when combined with proper diet and moderate exercise, is clinically proven to increase the metabolism through thermogenesis.”
