YouTube TV announced last week that the price of its subscription service would be raised from $65 per month to $73 per month. The price raise is effective immediately for new subscribers and existing subscribers will be hit with the updated price starting April 18.
YouTube TV explained in a tweet, “An update for our members. As content costs have risen and we continue to invest in our quality of service, we’ll be adjusting our monthly cost, after 3 years, from $64.99/mo to $72.99/mo, in order to bring you the best possible TV service.”
The platform recently bought the rights to NFL Sunday Ticket from Direct TV and some Twitter users were speculating this was the reason for the price increase. However, according to CNET, YouTube TV denied these claims stating the price increase is a result of “the broader rise of content costs.”
Although the price for new and existing subscribers is rising, YouTube TV is offering $10 off new subscribers’ first three months. The platform also said it was lowering the price of its 4K Plus add-on from $20 per month to $10 per month.
