Chick-fil-A Tests Out Its First Plant-Based Sandwich
Introducing, the “Chick-fil-A Cauliflower Sandwich.”
Next week, Chick-Fil-A will be testing out its new plant-based, cauliflower sandwich in three cities. According to CNN, this new option imitates the original chicken sandwich and features “a “tender filet cut” of cauliflower that’s marinated and breaded in the chain’s seasoning, then pressure cooked and served on a buttery bun with pickles.”
Chick-fil-A has reportedly been working on a plant-based sandwich for years, following suit with chains like Dunkin’ Donuts and Burger King when Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods meat substitutes were added to menus.
Leslie Neslage, Chick-fil-A’s director of menu and packaging said in a statement, “Guests told us they wanted to add more vegetables into their diets, and they wanted a plant-forward entrée that tasted uniquely Chick-fil-A.”
The new Chick-fil-A sandwich goes on sale Monday in Denver; Charleston, South Carolina; and the Greensboro-Triad region in North Carolina for a limited time. According to CNN, the price of the sandwich starts at $6.59 but varies by market.
The sandwich is marketed as plant-based and not vegan because milk and eggs are used. Also, the company noted for vegetarians, that its restaurants do not have “vegetarian-only preparation surfaces.”
