Walmart, Target and Others Will be Closed on Thanksgiving
Since the COVIC-19 pandemic hit, many retailers have started closing their stores on Thanksgiving. Holiday shopping and Black Friday deals meant massive crowds and the potential spreading of the virus. This temporary measure has now become the new normal for many businesses.
However, CNN Business noted, “…with the growth of online shopping, retailers aren’t as reliant on specific days to drive sales anymore. The extended shopping season means that stores can close on Thanksgiving without much impact on sales.”
Now major retailers like Target and Walmart can close on Thanksgiving without a major impact on sales.
According to CNN Business, aside from the measure taken due to the pandemic, labor advocates argued that stores should be closed on Thanksgiving so employees could spend time with their families. But, they reported, that this pressure put on retailers from labor groups has faded and they have shifted their focus to issues such as minimum wage, benefits and schedules.
